Strike paralyses banking service in rural banks


Banking service at rural banks across Bihar was paralysed today after its officers and employees joined the three-day nationwide strike, demanding provident fund and pension benefits besides other service conditions at par with commercial banks.

Bank services like cash transactions and clearing of cheques were completely paralysed at 2200 branches of different rural banks due to the strike in Bihar. Convener of United Forum of RRB Unions D N Trivedi said that business to the tune of Rs 50,000 crore could not take place across the country including Rs 3,000 crore in the state. A total of 90000 employees and officers of 23000 branches of 56 Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) across the country went on three-day nationwide strike from today. Bankers went on strike after the Centre did not concede their demands of provident fund and pension benefits to them at par with commercial banks.
